Our first harvest of the new year...asparagus, lettuce, and radishes. (The tomatoes are courtesy of Tomato-Tomato.) In other news, the barn is almost done, GodCarol visited, Maya had a birthday, Andre had a birthday and we ducktaped the cat's wound. Oh, yes, we did.

We love our cats! Our current queen, BlackBear, has just brought her kittens out to meet us. They are Athena and Boomer (Battlestar Galactica fans will appreciate the names.) We also worked on the barn, built the fire pit, checked on the beaver dams, and are furiously planting, of course!
Can you spot the Mama cat and her kittens in this picture? Probably not, since they're in the flap made by the top of the raft hanging on the wall. Brilliant hiding place, BlackBear! Names for new kitties to follow soon!

CURRENT MOON

Jul. 7, 5:21 a.m. EDT -- Full Buck Moon, when the new antlers of buck deer push out from their foreheads in coatings of velvety fur. It was also often called the Full Thunder Moon, thunderstorms being now most frequent. Sometimes this is also called the Full Hay Moon. Since the moon arrives at apogee less than 13 hours later, this will also be smallest full moon of 2009. In terms of apparent size, it will appear 12-percent smaller than the full moon of Jan. 10
